A few weeks ago at Great Falls, a group of us spotted several hundred ringed necked ducks, of which some 90+ percent were males.
I am told this is common.  In some mammals, there are bachelor herds and the consequent harems.   Is this the same for ring-necked ducks?   Or is there some other explanation?
