Hi All,

We're not sure if it has much to do with the patron saint of Ireland,
but the Kent Bird County Bird Club will be making an all day excursion
(bring some lunch) to bird Prime Hook National Wildlife Refuge and its
environs. The Delaware Bay shore is justifiably famous for its wetlands
and the Prime Hook area, lying between the more famous Bombay Hook and
Atlantic beaches from Cape Henlopen and southward, is a sometimes
overlooked gem. Nancy and I will meet folks locally at 7:00 AM at the
parking lot of the Dollar General store to the right of the traffic
light at Spring Street on MD-213 in Chestertown. If anyone wishes to
meet us at the refuge HQ north of DE-16 just west of Broadkill Beach
please contact us. The current weather prediction for Saturday is for
temperatures in the 40s and a brisk NW wind so wear winter clothes.

Nancy and I did some scouting at Prime Hook over the weekend and we had
53 species in a rather short 2 hour visit including good numbers of
waterfowl especially pintail and Green-winged Teal, four shorebird
species, five raptor species, Brown Thrasher, and White-crowned Sparrow.
We hope to see some of you on Saturday.

Good Birding,

Walter Ellison
