Many of the water birds at Little Seneca Lake, Black Hill Regional
Park, have left in the last week. Nevertheless, today I found 3
winter plumaged RED-NECKED GREBES there, tucked in with a group of 20
Common Mergansers. They were in the middle of the lake, and easily
scoped from the deck of the visitor center.

The sides of the road leading uphill past the boat ramp at Black Hill
were lined with American Robins; in with them were about a half dozen
RUSTY BLACKBIRDS.

On my way into Frederick County from Montgomery, I drove along Mouth
of Monocacy Rd. and saw my first AMERICAN PIPITS of the day. At
Noland's Ferry, Frederick County, American Pipits were walking about
in the parking lot and on the still iced up canal. Along New Design
Rd. leaving Noland's Ferry there were more Rusty Blackbirds feeding
on the roadside with Robins. Lots of sparrows were feeding by the
road, including Swamp, Fox, and AMERICAN TREE.

In the Adamstown area of Frederick County, a muddy and snowy farm
field on the west side of Cap Stine Rd. just south of Howard Stup Rd.
was alive with birds. I counted 6 Killdeer, 7 WILSON'S SNIPE, 20
EASTERN MEADOWLARKS, over 100 HORNED LARKS, and a handful of American Pipits.
