Jason,
I've recently updated the KAG checklist. (I had eight years of data --
thanks to people like Michael Bowen. I'm also continuing to add data as
people continue to get me their sightings.) It is my understanding that it
is available at the visitor center. I quickly combined the March and April
data since at this time of year (like the weather) sightings are all over
the place. I limited the list to birds I thought may be of interest.

For the Spring Season (March through April)
A=abundant, C=common, U=uncommon, R=rare

   COMMON LOON r
   PIED-BILLED GREBE r
   DOUBLE-CRESTED CORMORANT u
   AMERICAN BITTERN r
   GREAT BLUE HERON c
   GREAT EGRET u
   SNOWY EGRET r
   TRICOLORED HERON r
   GREEN HERON u
   GLOSSY IBIS r
   SNOW GOOSE r
   CANADA GOOSE a
   WOOD DUCK c
   GREEN-WINGED TEAL r
   AM BLACK DUCK c
   MALLARD c
   BLUE-WINGED TEAL r
   NORTHERN SHOVELER r
   BUFFLEHEAD r
   HOODED MERGANSER r
   COMMON MERGANSER r
   KILLDEER u
   GREATER YELLOWLEGS u
   LESSER YELLOWLEGS r
   SOLITARY SANDPIPER r
   SPOTTED SANDPIPER u
   LEAST SANDPIPER r
   WILSON'S SNIPE r
   BELTED KINGFISHER c

Michael did an outstanding job of listing where to look for slow moving
birds. I really love the River Trail, but it probably won't serve your
pupose.

Good luck,

Jason:

I haven't been to KAG recently, so don't know what exactly is
about. No doubt there will be Canada Geese and Mallards in the
aquatic garden pools, and they should be fairly easy to capture on
video. High tide will be some time after 10 a.m. on Tuesday, so the
tidal marsh should be flooded -- maybe very much so with recent rain
and snow melt. With luck, there may be other waterfowl closer to the
narrow opening through which Anacostia River water enters and leaves
the marsh -- there could be Wood Ducks, American Black Ducks or
Hooded Mergansers there. Maybe even Green-winged Teal. Telephoto
lenses and reasonably quite behavior will be needed if any such
waterfowl is not to fly the coop. A good place to set up would be the
end of the observation boardwalk, where there is broad decking.

Other likely subjects (likely to stay relatively still, anyway) would
be Ring-billed Gulls and Red-winged Blackbirds.

Good luck.
