Everybird that was anybird was on the Mall today. The highlights came
at me in fast and furious fashion during my lunchtime walk. Here they
are, in the order I stumbled on them:

Constitution Gardens
   a Pied-billed Grebe
   Redheads (4 males, 2 females)
   American Wigeons (a pair)
   a male Lesser Scaup
   a family of Fish Crows
   an immature Red-tailed Hawk
   many Fox Sparrows
   even more Song Sparrows
   ... even more Dark-eyed Juncos
   an American Woodcock (!)
The woodcock went zooming off over some tourists' heads, and as you
might guess they did not even glance at the little whistley flyer.

DC Veterans' Memorial
   a Merlin
   more Fox Sparrows
   more Song Sparrows
   more juncos
   an Eastern Phoebe
I guess the Merlin must have fed, given every one else's complacency

Tidal Basin
   4 Red-breasted Mergansers
   a Lesser Scaup male
Ring-billed, Greater Black-backed and Herring gulls

In the Potomac
   more Lesser Scaup
   several pair of Horned Grebes

(not technically on the Mall as I define it, at the north end of Hains
Point there was a Pine Warbler)

Everywhere:
Lots of robins, grackles, starlings, clouds of Song Sparrows. I'm
guessing these are migrants.
