Hello fellow birders,

I have been experience birding withdrawal while re-cooperating from
surgery at home the past week. It was exciting to see the Chipping
Sparrows return to my feeders on Tuesday. It was also exciting to
see even common Charles County birds like American Goldfinch,
Northern Cardinal, Bald Eagle and Osprey as yard birds this week.
Even though I have been hearing and seeing American Woodcocks display
in the yard since December, I still find myself migrating to the
back yard each night at dusk to see if they are still there. What
will I do when they stop calling?

While birding by car on Cobb Island this morning I saw several Surf
Scoters in mixed flocks of diving ducks. Purple Martins, Tree
Swallows and Osprey were busy all around this Charles County Potomac
River island.

I can't wait to get back in the field to do some spring birding from
more than the yard or car. Perhaps the spring migration will
encourage me to post to MDOSPREY more than I have over the past few
years.

Naturally,
Mike Callahan
