Fourteen birders searched portions of the grounds of Jean DuPont Shehan
Audubon Sanctuary this morning during the Talbot Bird Club visit and found a
total of 60 bird species. Trip leader was Les Roslund.

Ducks (Wood Duck, Black, Mallard, Lesser Scaup, Long-tailed Duck,
Surf Scoter, Common Goldeneye and Ruddy)
Osprey
Bald Eagle (five or more)
Black Vulture
Turkey Vulture
Sharp-shinned Hawk
Red-tailed Hawk
Wild Turkey (over 30)
Killdeer (scouting some gravel roads as possible nest sites)
Eastern Phoebe
Tree Swallow
BARN SWALLOW
Brown-headed Nuthatch (20+)
Golden-crowned Kinglet
Eastern Bluebird
Pine Warbler
Eastern Towhee
Sparrows (Chipping, Field, Savannah, Song, White-throated, and
Junco)
Eastern Meadowlark
Brown-headed Cowbird
House Finch
American Goldfinch.
Following the birding, a delicious breakfast was hosted by Linda and
Paul Makosky. During the breakfast the Makosky feeders (in St. Michaels)
attracted Brown-headed Nuthatches, American Goldfinches and Chipping
Sparrows.
In a preview visit on Thursday, March 22, several other species had been
present, including: Ducks (Northern Pintail, Northern Shoveler, American
Wigeon, Canvasback and Ring-necked). Also Pileated Woodpecker, Hermit
Thrush, Cedar Waxwing and Myrtle Warbler.
A special highlight during the Thursday visit was that two of the Hermit
Thrushes were singing.
