We had a nice walk along the C&O Canal from Pennyfield Lock heading upstream this morning, Sunday, March 25, seeing 34 species of birds. Highlights included Green-winged and Blue-winged Teal in the impoundments, as well as two male and two female Rusty Blackbirds foraging on the edge of the first impoundment. A complete list appears below. We also saw several unidentified small white butterflies, an early sulphur butterfly of some type, and a couple of commas or questionmarks and lots of happy turtles sunning.
