Yellow-throated Warbler still at my feeder yesterday-since November. Will have to be sure to check daily now!

  Folks

Gwen and I took a short break from Spring cleaning and went to the Mattawoman Natural Environmental Area off Rt. 224 south of Mason Spring, Charles County. We were hoping for ducks but there were more fisherman then ducks.

  Our highlights were:

  Common Merganser - three
  Green-winged Teal - two
  Wilson's Snipe - five
  Red-headed Woodpecker - Gwen only
Winter Wren - doing the "chimp, chimp" call.
First Yellow--throated Warbler of the season - single bird singing. I wonder if the over wintering bird is still at Carol Ghebelian's in Indian Head?

On our way to the Curry of Indian for lunch we stopped at the ponds in Waldorf next to the BJ's. We had a nice collection of Ring-necked Duck and a couple Lesser Scaup. The Hooded Mergansers from last week have moved on.

My first Killdeer of the year at the house was a flyover, and it happened early today. The two Chipping Sparrows continue to actively feed. More to come later in the month.

Yesterday while on Gwen's Saturday morning death walk down Mill Hill Road we encountered two Wild Turkey's foraging in the Osborne farm fields. It is good to see a couple birds hanging on even though the county continues to a complete destruction of this region of the county. This is the development district and "it will be developed". Idiots.

Spring is busting out all over so I guess more listserve emails will be generated. Has anyone seen the first Robin yet?
