This pm at at ~ 2, while watching for raptors aloft, we saw a Red-tail
high up heading north, at times supported by thermals. Congratulating
ourselves on a new yard bird for the year, we then noticed a larger,
all-dark, raptor following, perhaps ridng the same wind currents. It had
broader wings, but not quite like those of a Bald Eagle, with
conspicuous white wing patches about 2/3 of the way to the wingtips, not
quite reaching front or rear wing edge. The undertail showed no white,
but was largely obscured by the large feet.
I hesitate to put the name on this raptor, but post in the hopes that
some other birder(s) may have also seen it.
