I had a few minutes to birdwatch when I got home, and was rewarded with a
postcard moment. Unfortunately I had no camera, so I won't have a postcard
to show for it! I saw 47 species from 6:20-7:05. Visibility was ideal, but bird
song/calls were fairly quiet, probably due to cold weather with temps dropping
quickly right before evening.
Out in the middle of the open water part of Jug Bay there was a large log
stuck in the mud in shallow water, and sitting on it a foot or two apart (each)
were six very large birds - all immature eagles! It was quite a site, even for
here. They appeared to be simply resting. I watched them from 6:25-36 PM,
during which their only activity was from one of them that was preening. I
also saw one adult across the river and they did not react to it at all.
