Today after work I visited Centennial Park in Howard County, birding the lower
part of the lake. Despite the cloudy, raw weather birds were active. Lots of
Tree and Rough-winged Swallows were flying over the water. Two Ospreys
were seen and a whistling call attracted my attention to a soaring adult Bald
Eagle. I saw one Caspian Tern and five graceful Bonaparte's Gulls including one
with a full hood and a slight pink tinge on its underparts. A Barred Owl called
from the woods near the dam. There were maybe a dozen each of yellow Palm
and Yellow-rumped Warblers and a few Pine Warblers that added color to the
gray day.
