I did a little bit of birding this morning, checking out some interesting nesting birds in the County.

There looked to be 15 occupied nests in the DOUBLE-CRESTED CORMORANT colony in the middle of the Potomac River, just at the mile marker 8 pt on the C&O Canal. While I was there an adult BONAPARTE'S GULL flew into the pools under the trees by the river bank and swam around for a bit. Tired and hungry I guess.

The PEREGRINES are still at the Am. Legion bridge.

The GREAT BLUE HERON colony on the island south of White's Ferry had around 10 or so nests that were obviously occupied but I could not get any closer than the ramp at the ferry so might well be undercounting. No sign of a Great Egret which put in an appearance later in the season last year.

There was not much else to report - only warblers seen were Yellow Palm and some very bright Yellow-rumped. The end of W Offutt Rd had a flock of around 60 or so RUSTY BLACKBIRD chattering away in trees at the edge of the woods, accompanied by a few Red-winged Blackbirds and Cowbirds.
