Not being from Maryland, I am hoping that I will be granted some latitude on 
this.

I noticed a post a day or so ago about a talk George Jett is giving about a 
trip to South Texas in Chestertown.  I was looking on the map to see where 
Chestertown and I noted that I would have to take Rt. 50 and cross the 
bridge to get there (it is almost a complete circle to go there from here), 
so I decided I won't be going, even though I am very interested in South 
Texas birds.

In looking at the map, I noted that there is only one way to get across the 
bay.  Has anyone ever given any thought to what would happen if the bridge 
went out?  And yes, it could happen.  In 1986, there were three bridges in 
upstate New York that crossed the Hudson River (one on IH 90), and two of 
them were wiped out by a flood.  So, if one was going from Buffalo east, you 
had to take back roads.

Here, if the bridge went out, how would one get across the bay?
