I hope I will be forgiven, but this issue affects the birds we love.

Both houses have passed the ill-conceived Wind Power Bill. This bill
relieves wind power projects of the need for a Certificate of Public
Convenience. It removes any environmental review. In the initial draft, at
least, it also did not provide for notification of adjacent property owners.
Current Maryland projected wind projects on mountain ridgetops will remove
acres of forest, probably decimate migrating birds and bats, and likely not
be running during peak electric demand periods.

Inform the Governor of your opposition to this abrogation of YOUR rights.
The wind power industry has the Governor's ear. If we build sufficient
public opposition, perhaps we can persuade him otherwise. More detail to
follow in the next issue of GOLDFINCH.

Below is the text I used. Feel free to modify.

This bill should be vetoed, because it abrogate's the Public's right to
debate placement of wind power projects. The siting of wind power projects
should be subject to full, public debate, notification of adjacent property
owners, and environmental review. While the bill does call for public
hearings, those will hardly put a roadblock in the way of an ill-conceived
project. To sign this bill is to violate the civil and property rights of
Maryland citizens.
