"I caught and released my first shad, and boy did it put up a good fight."

Jennifer and all,
For an account of shad battling John McPhee wrote an excellent book, The
Founding Fish. A good read even for birders. Jennifer's account isn't off at
all.
Of course I get all the battle I need from Brook Trout. Shad would bust
my chops.

Kevin's account of the Smith Island trip looks pretty good, but he might
have missed a Gannet. It would have been easy to do. In my mind I could hear
Carl Sagan saying something about "billions and billions". But then my mind
always hears strange things. I need to get that thing fixed.
I'm just glad there wasn't a Gannetcatcher around, Blue-Gray or
otherwise.
