Roosevelt Island, Wash, DC, 20 Apr 07, 1200-1300

Finally, some delightful weather for a lunchtime walk. The Potomac is
running very high with the outer edge of RI under water. For those familiar
with RI, water was under the entire length of the boardwalk. 34 species
were observed or heard. Barn Swallows have returned to their ancestral
breeding grounds under the RI access bridge. Other birds of note included 1
Osprey and 1 Caspian Tern over the river, 1 nattily attired Wood Duck, 2
Hermit Thrush and 2 FOY Blue-gray Gnatcatcher. I also stumbled across 1 big
ole toad waking up from its extended winter slumber.
