The arrival of my daughter seven weeks ago promises to greatly curtail my birding this spring, but I will still make forays into Fort Bayard Park (NW DC on the MD border, at River and Western) when I can. I probably won't post much after I go back to work, but right now I have a moment.
And it's a fine morning out there. No real rarities, but some nice spring arrivals. Best bird was a SCARLET TANAGER, not that unusual for the park but a bit on hte early side. Couldn't find the bird, unfortunately, but heard the call note well. Other new arrivals (for me at least) were 2 CHIMNEY SWIFTS, A BLUE-GRAY GNATCATCHER, a FIELD SPARROW (mixed in with the usual spring flock of many Chipping Sparrows), and PALM and YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLERS. A holdover from yesterday was a HERMIT THRUSH.
