Birders can always find the silver lining, right? While standing outside the
house this afternoon discussing a leaky skylight (I think the guy said he
could repair it by stuffing a lot of money in the cracks), I saw a
Broad-winged Hawk fly over, along with a small flock of Chimney Swifts. Both
were first-of-year for me.

The yard sounded better today too. This morning I heard the first House Wren
of the season, and earlier in the week a Brown Thrasher's glorious voice
provided a welcome alternative to the monotonous songs of titmouse and
flicker.

I suspect my juncos have already headed north -- they never bother to say
goodbye -- but maybe they're scarce because I haven't sprinkled any millet
for a few days. Are you folks still seeing juncos around?
