Total observation time: 10 hours
Official Counter: Sue Ricciardi
Observers: Hal Wierenga, James Meyers, Jeff Hook, Joe Meyers, Marty Miller
Visitors: Jay McGann, Christine, Sherry, Bill Hubick, Matt Tillett, 10
Weather: Sunny, becoming partly cloudy with great cumulus clouds; 54-75 degrees;
winds westerly 7-18 mph, gusting to 28 mph; good visibility
Raptor Observations: A truly extraordinary day for us. Sharp-shinned Hawks all day long, as
many as 182 in an hour, many going just about head to tail along the
treeline. We wondered how the passerines were feeling with that many
Sharpies flying about.
Non-raptor Observations: Another probable 3000+ Blue Jays and notable numbers of Brown-headed Cowbirds, American Goldfinches, Eastern Kingbirds and Blue-Gray
Gnatcatchers. Too busy to count the huge number of migrant swallows
(Tree, Bank, Barn, Cliff, and Northern Rough-winged), swifts, and martins.
Two Horned Grebes.
