Hi Everyone,

Great birds before and after work certainly salvaged this long Monday! Below are some highlights:

Drinking coffee in my yard in Pasadena, ~6:45 a.m.

Blue Jays--down to about 3 or 4 at any time
House Wren--1 singing
Gray Catbird--1
Brown Thrasher--1 at feeder
WOOD THRUSH--1 singing
BLUE GROSBEAK--1
Myrtle Warbler--1
COMMON YELLOWTHROAT--1 male in scrub at back of yard; we're planning to keep our 10'-20' of scrub along the edge of the yard intact; already paying off
WT Sparrows--still about 5 around at any time

After work; couple mile run through Weinberg Park

Barred Owl--1 chased by 2 American Crows
RT Hummingbird--1
VEERY--1
Hermit Thrush--1
RC Kinglet--3
BG Gnatcatcher--10
Myrtle Warbler--5

Kickin' back in the yard with a root beer float. That's how I roll...

MERLIN--1; beautiful, unexpected flyby (low)
Herring Gull--2
Forster's Tern--1 flyby
RT Hummingbird--male and female still present; hoping they stick around
Eastern Kingbird--1
Barn and Tree Swallows
RC Kinglet--1
BG Gnatcatcher--1
Northern Mockingbird--the resident here is quite a virtuoso; my personal favorite imitations today were Osprey, Wood Thrush, and RUBY-THROATED HUMMINGBIRD. The latter was new for me. It might even top my previous favorite mockingbird imitation: Mallard. Tough to beat a mockingbird quacking on a wire, though...
Yellow Warbler--1 female in our holly; previous visitor was a male
Common Yellowthroat--still back in the scrub
Monarch--1

Jim Brighton/anyone, can you ID the tiger beetle? :)

Good birding,

Bill
