Ospreyers,

Please join us for this most interesting program.

This Friday, May 4 at 8:00 p.m., the Anne Arundel Bird Club will host a presentation on THE BATS OF MARYLAND to the at Arlington Echo Outdoor Environmental Education Center in Millersville, MD.

Dana Limpert, a bat expert and Maryland Department of Natural Resources biologist, will present on these fascinating mammals. After Dana's talk we may look for bats outside the building where we meet. Here's the information on Dana's talk:

FRIDAY, MAY 4, 2007. BAT ZEN: THE BATS OF MARYLAND–SEPARATING FACT FROM FICTION.
Local bat expert Dana Limpert will speak on the bats of Maryland. In her presentation, she will discuss the ecology and natural history of the bat species found in Maryland, threats to populations, conservation measures, as well as cultural myths surrounding these fascinating animals. Dana has worked on bat conservation issues for over fifteen years including house bat management, mining issues, bat boxes, and wind farms. Her master’s work involved a telemetry study of bats and characterizing their roosts in the Pocomoke River watershed in Maryland. Her paper discussing roost tree characteristics of red bats in Maryland has been recently accepted for publication in the Journal for Wildlife Management. Dana is a biodiversity analyst with the Maryland Department of Natural Resources Wildlife and Heritage Service and is responsible for mapping, modeling, and for analysis of rare and endangered plant and animal habitat.
