When I arrived around 1230 at the main impoundments to erect the
final swallow nest boxes I met a couple from DC ( I didn't get their names)
who reported that they had seen a GLOSSY IBIS. We found it again quickly
near the island in the large impoundment and it remained for the couple of
hours I was here. Once it flew off with a pair of crows in hot pursuit, but
soon returned to the mat of vegetation on the south side of the island.
Other birds of interest were a Pied-billed Grebe, 3 families of
Canada Geese, 5 recently hatched ducklings (probably Wood Ducks) without an
adult present, on coot (down from 12 on 4-30), a Sharp-shinned Hawk, 2
singing Yellow Warblers and 3 singing Prothonotary Warblers.
