Fairly quiet Big Day, from 0430 to 2100 on 4 MAY.
Huntley Meadow, VA
Monticello Park, VA
Governors Bridge Rd, MD
Missipillion, DE
Slaughter Beach, DE
Ted Harvey, DE
Port Mahon, DE
Bombay Hook, DE
Total = 134 Species
Highlights/lowlights
Warblers – 26
Huntley Meadows – Mourning!, Canada
Monticello Park – Many warblers, including Blackburnian, but almost as many
birders
Gov Bridge- Prothonotary checking out bird box
Red-headed Woodpecker at Gov Bridge
Almost NO crabs, thought the full moon/spring tide in May brought them
ashore, but maybe just a little too early. Very few shore birds, not a knot.
Except for a huge flock of Black-bellied Plovers in a plowed field near Bombay
Hook. I saw them spook from a distance and thought they were a flock of
blackbirds, but were hundreds of plovers in every possible molt. Scanned the field
for 15 minutes and found 2! Am Golden Plovers.
Very few thrushes.
Black Tern at Ted Harvey and Boat-tailed Grackles.
Lots of whiffs and single birds of many species.
