I took the dog for a walk at Lake Artemesia this morning (from 8:45
to 10:15) and found some very good birds.
In particular:
Osprey
Yellow-billed Cuckoo - heard in distance, across Paint Branch
Eastern Kingbird - 1 pair, building a nest
Red-eyed Vireo
Warbling Vireo (FOY)
PURPLE MARTIN (FOY) - 4, going in and out of the martin house
Tree Swallow
Blue-gray Gnatcatcher
EASTERN BLUEBIRD - 1 male, on fence by RR tracks, near bluebird house #5
Northern Parula - heard on south side of lake
Yellow-rumped Warbler - heard in woods along entrance road
Blackpoll Warbler - heard on south side
Common Yellowthroat
WHITE-CROWNED SPARROW (FOY) - 1 resplendent male, singing
Indigo Bunting - heard on south side
BOBOLINK (FOY) - 1 male, singing from the top of a pine, at entrance
Orchard Oriole
Baltimore Oriole
I was beginning to feel just a little desperate to find my first
White-crowned Sparrow of the season. This one was in and under
the young oak trees between the restrooms and the fishing dock.
Thanks for your posting, Mike!
There were TONS of orioles (more Orchard than Baltimore),
particularly along the south and west sides of the lake. I saw
breeding males, first spring males, and females.
