Hello again,

I forgot to mention the three free-flying Bar-headed
Geese I saw this morning on the eastern shore of Conn
Island (i.e. the "far shore of Conn Island" where I
saw the American Coot aka the edge of Conn Island one
can see from the concrete platform near the Great
Falls Park visitors center). One was reported on May
8 in the river from Riverbend Park, Fairfax County,
Virginia. Jay Keller (see
http://www.freelists.org/archives/va-bird/05-2007/msg00122.html)
said on the Virginia birding listserv on May 10 that
there is a human-assisted breeding population at
Reston Zoo near Lake Fairfax that wander the area
freely.

They were handsome birds, with their yellow bills,
white heads with two black bars on the hindcrown/nape
are, white line on the side of the neck between
gray/dark hind-neck and fore-neck, and gray bodies.
Some of the resident Canada Geese were chasing them
around the edge of Conn Island and out in the river.
These birds are doubtless escapes, since there are no
records of wild birds anywhere in North America.
