Congrads to Ray Kiddy. However, we matched him on our count in Carroll
County at Hashawa yesterday. Right next to Pipe Creek and a sign telling us
we were about to leave Hashawa, we got a Mourning Warbler, probably about
the 6th one we have ever seen and the first one in MD. Several years ago we
found a female in Mich, then a male near my mother's house in PA. Two years
ago on a trip to Algonquin with the Harveys and Gaffneys we got maybe 3
more. This is our first since. Several times we tried for the ones in
Garrett County and always whiffed. Laura is still bouncing from this one.
Other highlights on our count were 2 Swainson's Thrush, 3 Yellow-billed
Cuckoos and the usual Kentuckies and Hooded Warblers on the other side of
Pipe Creek from where the Mourning was. Good numbers of Black-throated Blues
and Greens going thru. Spotted Sandpiper down at our lake here in Aspen Run.
This was easily our most fun May count. Kinda quickens the heartbeat.
