Hi All,
Following up on yesterday's sightings at McKeldin I spent all morning
along the Tall Poplar trail and the main trail along the river. I recorded
20 species of warbler and the forest floor was hopping with thrushes. Here
are the highlights:
Broad-winged Hawk 1-2 in display flight
Solitary Sandpiper 1
Pileated Woodpecker 2
Hairy Woodpecker 1
Acadian Flycatcher 10+
Eastern Wood-pewee 8+
Yellow-throated Vireo 7
Unidentified "spectacled" vireo 1 (Overall similarity to Blue-headed, but
with uniform colored dusky grayish dorsal side and head. I.e., no clear
distinction between bright green back and blue head as in Blue-headed. Two
distinct wing bars ruled out Philadelphia Vireo). My initial thoughts led
me to think of one of the western "solitary" forms, but I did not get
photos of the bird so I better leave it be....)
Swainson's Thrush 20+
Gray-cheeked Thrush 10+
Veery 5+
Wood Thrush 5+
Northern Parula 6+
Yellow-rumped Warbler 5+
Magnolia Warbler 4+
Chestnut-sided Warbler 2
Cerulean Warbler 7+
Blackpoll Warbler 2
Bay-breasted Warbler 1
Black-throated Blue Warbler 9
Black-throated Green Warbler 5
Blackburnian Warbler 4
Yellow-throated Warbler 1
Worm-eating Warbler 4
Black-and-white Warbler 2
American Redstart 10+
Ovenbird 10+
Louisiana Waterthrush 3
Common Yellowthroat 3
MOURNING WARBLER 1 singing along the river close to rapids
Canada Warbler 3
Hooded Warbler 1
Scarlet Tanager 15+
Rose-breasted Grosbeak 2
Baltimore Oriole 1
