Hi all

I joined the group at Lake Roland this morning. Lake Roland folks will know
the trail going across the light rail tracks, headed toward the "dyke." More
than half way back this trail there are built-in steps leading down to the
lake. On the hill above these steps, I heard a Trail's flycatcher this
morning. I had Stoke's bird call recordings with me, and when I checked, the
call I heard sounded most like an Alder. (Rheee-beet). The call was fairly
faint. I heard it four times. I think only one other person in the party
heard the call. Since returning to the office, I have listened to bird
recordings from Cornell labs, and still feel the call most resembles the
Alder. I know that the Willow can have a similar song (in addition to its
Fitz-brew song), but the recordings of the Willow ascending song sound
quicker and shorter - a sharper sound compared to what I heard. I left the
group early and on my way back to the car I played the Alder and the Willow
calls but got no response.

If others check out the Lake Roland trail in the next day or so and hear a
Trail's I would appreciate hearing your impressions of the call. Does anyone
know whether Alder Flycatchers have ever been reported at Lake Roland? (I've
never even had a Willow at Lake Roland before!)

Oh yes. On my way back to the car I saw a Swainson's Thrush to add to the
day's list.
