Battle of the Tanagers

My fly rod, my truck and the guy that drives the truck all went over to the
Catoctins for our first look at the streams. Not bad.

Highlights were many LA Waterthrush, Ovenbirds, a Hooded Warbler, Redstarts,
and an Acadian Flycatcher.

While I was eating my lunch there was a very vocal war going on overhead
between two singing Scarlet Tanagers. I can't speak Tanager, but it sounded
to me like they were cussing. Evidently they hadn't quite settled their
annual border dispute.

And I couldn't help but notice a lot of freshly mown hay both in Frederick
and Carroll Counties. This is the 8th of May. If anybody doesn't know why
our grassland species are in trouble ...
