I met Jim Stasz at 2am in Parole on Saturday morning. he had a few
Swainson's Thrush fly over while waiting for me. We proceeded to Tilgman
Neck in Queen Anne's County, where we picked up Chuck-will's-widow, Barred
Owl, and a flyover BICKNELL'S THRUSH. We tried for Whip-poor-will in the
western part of the county, but had to settle for them along Trunk Line Road
in Caroline County. On the way to Kent, Screech Owls were heard at two stops
in Queen Anne's, and after double checking calls at home, I had a flyover
DICKCISSEL some were along Rt. 305. The aim was to bird and bug the
Millington area, upon arrival it didn't take long to tick off Barred Owl and
Chuck-will's-widow. After a few stops we pushed up into Cecil to check one
of Jim's stops for Vesper Sparrow along Eger Price Road. Sucsess, two birds,
we never did find any in Kent. Warblers started to pick up and we quickly
ticked of Blackpoll, Black-throated Blue, Parula, and a few other spring
arrivals. On the way back down State Line Road I picked up a flock of 12
Black-bellied Plovers in Kent, and we watched them fly into Cecil for the
double tick. Highlights in Millington were as follows, Red-shouldered
Hawks(a personal closeout), a Broad-winged Hawk, 3 Pileated Woodpeckers at
three seperate spots, 1 YELLOW-BELLIED and an ALDER, 2 Swainson's Thrush, 19
species of warbler(2 Blue-winged, 1 Blackburnian, Blackpoll, Magnolia,
Black-throated Green, and 1 Northern Waterthrush). We wrapped things up by
the middle of the afternoon and headed for home. I managed to pick up 24
county ticks, something I haven't done in a LONG time. Other highlights
included several life odes, and a life herp, a Marbled Salamander!
