Good day to be at the Maintenance Yard, with a nice variety
of warblers giving close-up looks for a number of birders:
NORTHERN PARULA (female), MAGNOLIA (male, great looks),
BLACK-THROATED BLUE (M&F), YELLOW-RUMPED, BLACK-THROATED
GREEN (superb), BLACKPOLL, BLACK-AND-WHITE (F), AMERICAN
REDSTART (F), OVENBIRD (heard only at the Yard; I saw one in
the forest), COMMON YELLOWTHROAT (M&F), and CANADA WARBLER
(singing and posing for us). Others saw Blackburnian (M&F)
and Chestnut-sided (heard only). Also of note, many
SWAINSON'S THRUSHES around, plus GRAY-CHEEKED THRUSH, and a
LINCOLN'S SPARROW and SWAMP SPARROW at the Yard. Heard a
BARRED OWL from the Yard as well, and ACADIAN FLYCATCHER is
back in the forest just down from the stables.

Off to Vancouver, Canada for a week tomorrow. Someone else
can take over posting for the park. :)

Location: Rock Creek Park
Observation date: 5/21/07
Time:	06h00-09h45

Notes: Probably my last visit to the park before heading to
Vancouver for a week. Started out mostly cloudy and calm
(so I went to the Yard), but then sunny and breezy. Lots of
good looks at warblers around the dead vines at the Yard,
plus Lincoln's Sparrow, kingbird, and another Gray-cheeked.
A couple of mystery warblers, probably females (one likely
Blackpoll). Others reported Blackburnian (male and female)
and Chestnut-sided. The Acadian Flycatcher is back in its
usual spot in the forest just down from the barn. Also
heard my first Barred Owl in a while at the park. Deer and
chipmunks also seen.
