This Friday evening, June 1st is the Baltimore Bird Club's annual whip-poor-will trip to Soldier's Delight, NW of Baltimore. We will be attempting to count all calling whips across the site so we will be walking the trails after dusk. Soldier's Delight holds the last remaining population of whip-poor-wills in Baltimore County and last year we heard 7 whips and one woodcock.

All are welcome to join us. The moon will be full and above the horizon (when nightjars call the most) but it might be hidden behind clouds so you may want to bring a flashlight. We will be out until approximately 10pm.

Meet at 8pm at the Deer Park Road overlook. This will give us a little time to see some of the diurnal birds (Prairire Warbler, Summer Tanager) before sunset. We will set out to count whips from this same place at 8:30-8:40pm. Directions - from I-695 beltway exit 18 Liberty Road, go west 4 miles, then bear right onto Deer Park Road just before traffic light and water tower. Go 2 miles to historical marker and gravel parking lot on left.
