Two unseasonable birds turned up while running a
Perryman, Harford County atlas mini-route this weekend,
June 10, that may be of interest to folks planning big days
in the NE portion of the state.
The first, a drake Canvasback, was roosting near
the head of the Bush River off a vantage located near the
intersection of Rt. 40 and Rt. 543 (behind the small office park
with neighboring condominiums). The area is relatively wind
sheltered and the bird was sleeping when initially spotted
(5:45AM) so this may be a regular roost.
The second, a white morph White-throated Sparrow,
sang persistently from the corner of Canning House Rd.
and Mitchell Drive. An interesting bird to hear in MD in June,
especially against the din of 1/2 dozen singing Horned
Larks. Horned Larks, Grasshopper Sparrows, and Bobwhite
were also in evidence along Chelsea Rd.

Cheers,

Dave
