On the subject of bird wanderers: I have had an inordinate number of
wanderers in my yard this year - blue grosbeaks, indigo buntings, brown
thrasher, yellow-throated vireo, scarlet tanager, eastern kingbird, and
others. Jim's theory on gypsy moth as the cause seems unlikely because the
defoliation is just starting, and this has been going on for a few
weeks. How about the fires in GA? A lot of acres have been burned beyond
the use of birds, so a lot of birds have been displaced. Does it seem
possible that they could displace this far from the fires? Are reports of
wanderers more common in states closer to the fires? Any thoughts on this?
