After finally seeing my FOY Summer Tanager at Blackwater yesterday,
I was delighted to find my FOY county bird at the National Wildlife
Visitor Center this morning. It was in the crown of a large pine along
the entrance road, just before the field on the right as you approach
the visitor center (yet another illustration of the value of learning the
call notes as well as the songs of birds!).

Just before leaving, I saw something odd going on over the dike
between the lakes. A Tree Swallow appeared to be playing with a
large white flight feather (almost as big as it was). It would fly around
with the feather in its beak, then drop it, swoop down and catch it, and
then go through the routine again. I watched it do this about three times.

In my posting yesterday, I forgot to mention that I found gas for
$2.69/gal in Easton.

Have a good birding weekend!
