The ALDER FLYCATCHER found and reported by Stan Arnold on the 21st
was still singing at 10:30 this morning, Sunday, 6/24, at the place
Stan found it -- along Ballenger Creek Rd., about 100yds. south of
its intersection with Mountville Rd. This location is less than 2
miles NW of Adamstown (a once lovely old town now overrun with modern
suburbia) and 5+ miles south of the City of Frederick.

Just as interesting, and just as we were about to leave, a male
DICKCISSEL flew into a large dead tree at the same spot and started
to sing from a high perch. Other birds in the immediate area
included Indigo Bunting, Common Yellowthroat, Eastern Kingbird, and
Brown Thrasher.

We toured other roads in the vicinity, like Cap Stine Rd., which in
the past has had Dickcissels, without coming across another one. We
did find a Grasshopper Sparrow perched along Oland Rd. between New
Design Road and Route 85.

Like many other people, we failed to find the previously reported
King Rail at Lilypons. Lilypons did have singing Warbling Vireo and
Willow Flycatcher, in the same locations as reported by Stan on the
21st, and Purple Martins and Tree Swallows all over. And if you like
watching Red-winged Blackbirds chasing Green Herons, Belted
Kingfishers, and each other, Lilypons is the place to be.

Good Summer Birding!
