I saw nothing particularly earth-shattering this weekend, but at least I got
out of the house!

First, in PG on Thursday, Ol' Schoolhouse Pond was littered with fresh Great
Blue Herons. I only stayed for about 15 minutes (long enough for the baby to
get a snack), and didn't walk around the whole thing because the young
herons were so entertaining. "Other seens" were the usual gang of idiots-
Barn Swallows, Mallards, Trumpeter Swan...etc. The heron hilarity made the
quick stop on our way south worthwhile.

Thursday afternoon, I got great close looks at a Pine Warbler over my
mother-in-law's driveway in Dameron (SM). Following that, rolled down to Pt
Lookout where I flushed a Green Heron off the rip rap, and spotted an imm N.
(Yellow-shafted) Flicker begging for grub. Everything else was kinda slow-
warm summer afternoon doldrums.

Friday, on to Flag Ponds. The woods were fairly quiet, but we were greeted
by and Ovenbird, Louisiana Waterthrush, Red-eyed Vireo, Wood Thrushes (with
lots of babies), Acadian Flycatcher, E. Wood Peewees. My ear is not very
trained- so I probably missed quite a bit. On Pax River NAS, Fiona, Kermit
and I had a picnic with a Great Egret and several Ospreys off Hog Point, and
watched a GBHE have a crab dinner.

Saturday at Calvert Cliffs SP, I was chased around by a couple of Summer
Tanagers and a Red-eyed Vireo. I don't think they liked the faces I made at
them. I stared at a hole in a dead tree at the swamp for 20 minutes until it
was visited by two Red-headed Woodpeckers who afforded nice looks once the
kid n the nearby trail stopped screaming at the turtles.

I bought a new camera- hopefully the pictures will be a little less crappy.
