This county is a great spot for them... last year on the atlas we had nearly 10 places with an abundance of Dickcissels, with 6 confirmed breeding pairs. But I'm getting nervous for them with all of this new development...but it's good to here they're near Wye Island!
Usually if you watch them close enough, they will eventually fly off with food for the young, and sometimes you can spot fledglings out in the open. That's what made them so easy to count in the atlas. But that's long over...now it seems I have nothing to do over the summer!!!

Hi all after reading Fred Fallons posting about finding The Dickcissel near Wye Island. I dropped everything and went looking after work on 6 - 22 . the first pass thru yielded only Grasshopper Sparrows and Meadowlarks one singing on a fence near the road. On the way back thru once more I heard and saw a singing male Dickcissel on the powerline were he descibed . A great county bird for the year . We had one one in this exact location on territory during the atlas last year . Also 2 Bluebirds and Several Barn swallows were presant on Fri .
