I'm getting better at this birds and laundry
thing...the first rare bird I couldn't see because I
was doing laundry when I found out about it was a
Black-legged Kittiwake in Montgomery County in the
1990s. Lord knows, I probably wouldn't have seen that
bird anyway.
The second one was the Frederick County Northern
Lapwing. I didn't find out about it until the
afternoon after it was posted on MDOsprey (another
time I didn't check the internet for hours). After a
few minutes I said "Bah! Let them be wrinkled" and I
zoomed up there as fast as I could, and saw it.
This time, I've already seen the species in Maryland.
Not that it wouldn't be nice to see the species again.
I wonder how many are in the District of Columbia
right now.
