Here are a few details about locations on our Western Maryland trip.
The Henslow's Sparrows were at Old Legislative Rd just south of Klondike Rd
as usual in the fields east of the gated side road. We went to Combination
Rd but did not get any there in about a half-hour by the roadside. We did
not hear the usual Golden-winged Warbler at OL Rd.
The Cerulean Warbler was near the top of Breakneck Rd in Allegany Co.
Snaggy Mountain Rd (west of Swallow Falls) around 6 PM was the only place we
actually SAW a number of warblers, such as Blackburnian, Chestnut-sided, and
Magnolia, plus a Purple Finch, and a well-heard Canada Warbler. No
Golden-winged Warbler, which is sometimes there.
We saw and heard Least Flycatcher on Westernport Rd 100-200 feet west of
Savage River Rd. I have gotten them in this area for years but usually
closer to the intersection. The usual Baltimore Oriole and Parula Warbler
were also there.
We saw a Chat at the Jennings-Randolph Lake where there was also a singing
Kentucky Warbler, but, alas, no Golden-winged Warbler.
The Yellow-throated Warbler (heard-only, but well) was at the heart of
Swallow Falls State Park in the open area west of the parking lot just where
I had it two years ago. I believe its breeding status was confirmed at some
level then.
The Yellow-rump was at the same location, heard-only. Lots of invisible
singing Blackburnians there.
We saw a family of turkeys on Pine Swamp Rd (eastern Garrett).
I heard a distant Sora at Finzel.
Thrushes were remarkably silent and invisible.
