Greetings:
I swung down Carmichael Road on my way to the Tawes Building this morning
and pulled over just past the University of Maryland offices. I didn't see
anything on the wires at first so rolled down the window to have a listen. Lots
of grasshopper sparrows singing, plus something else. I looked on all the
fence posts nearby, but nothing. Looked up at the wires just down the road
and there he was. The light was bad and he had his back to me, so I got out
of the car to try for a better look. The bird didn't seem to mind my approach
and I got up to the closest telephone pole before I stopped. He just kept on
singing. I spent about 5 minutes watching, then left. He was still there after
I did a U-turn and began to drive away.
Happy birding -
