Friday night we spent the night over on the Eastern Shore, returning from a dinner party to my brother-in-laws house about midnight there was a pair of Chuck Wills Widow calling (one very loudly too, was right across the street somewhere) and I realised, sadly, that I am missing those night sounds over here in So AA Co these days- used to be you could hardly hear yourself think at night in the summertime what with the whipoorwills, chuck wills, nighthawks, crazy night singing mockingbirds and even owls calling, even in downtown Annapolis. Bobwhites too, used to hear them as often as cardinals haven't heard one in I don't know how long even though I know there is at least one around here. I was gone to the West Coast for 25-30 years after school and only recently returned - its taken me all these couple of years to figure out what was so weird about night around here - it's too quiet and it's a da#$ shame too.
