For many years, I avidly tuned in to the adventures of Ward and June - no, not Leave it to
Beaver, but owlcam.com! Over the course of 8 years, the owner of the website carefully
documented a pair of Barred Owls raising chicks in a nest box on his Massachussetts
property, using still photography, video and very detailed written descriptions of the day-to-
day (or should that be night-to-night) activities of the owls. He has combined the best
footage from several years in a wonderful self-produced DVD.
On the website, which is still operating, there is a page with links to sound recordings of the
different calls and noises with which the adults and young communicate, including multiple
examples of George's "hissing" call (which is called "wheezing" on the website). Here's a
