Now that's interesting, because yesterday I was not far from there
and I thought I saw
a Sharpie--certainly it was an accipiter--doing the flap-flap-glide
kind of flying they tend to do.
I was driving at the time and lost it in the trees, so I didn't get a
good look, but I had a
definite impression it was on the small side. Early migrant, maybe?
And for those of you who, like Kurt, seem to be geographically challenged ;-),
of course Delaware has a Piedmont! Those are genuine hills north and west of
Wilmington, and the landscape is quite beautiful at Ashland Nature
Center and Brandywine
State Park. Venture across the state line sometime and you may be surprised.
Here in northern Cecil County--part of Maryland's Piedmont, not
Delaware's--our Phoebes have three
young feathering up and having trouble fitting in the nest. If nobody
gets shoved out,
I expect to see them begging on the handles of the log cart soon, just like the
Baby Cowbird used to do.
