Parke and I went out for a paddle today around the upper Elk River around the Elkton Marsh. We didn't get out until around lunch time. We timed it around the low tide so we had plenty of mud flats. So much mud that we got in a tight spot here and there.
There was a good number of peep today, almost entirely Least Sandpipers. They were very approachable. At some spots we were able to get with in 5 or 10 feet. We also had a very friendly Green Heron who posed for me several times. I guess it didn't mind being photographed.
Also, Parke had a Rail step out from the mud to the grass. He had the angle on it. I didn't see it, but I think he had said Virginia Rail. He would need to verify that.
