Also, the Wild Cherry tree (prunus serotina) in our front yard has lots of
ripe cherries on it and the birds are loving it.
Species observed: Robins, Catbirds, Red-bellied woodpecker, and of course
starlings and sparrows.
This tree is considered a junk tree by arborists I've talked to but it is a
nice mid-sized tree that definitely is important to birds in our yard, is
fast-growing and very hardy. It had Scarlet tanagers all over it in the
spring due to the bugs flying around the blooms. It does self seed but the
seedlings are very easy to pull.
Also lots of American Goldfinches trying to yank seeds out of the Purple
coneflower and Black-eyed susan that is in bloom.
