Hi Folks,

On our way to Indianapolis on Tuesday (31 July), Elaine and I made several
stops to look for some shorebirds in western Maryland. We first stopped at
Baker Park in the city of Frederick (Frederick Co.) where we easily found an
adult Black-crowned Night Heron near the foot bridge that crosses the stream
there. Many thanks to John Stup and John Hubbell for reporting this heron.
Of several stops that we made subsequently, only two offered shorebirds
other than Killdeer. They were:

Beaver Creek wetland, Washington Co. (on Hwy 66, very near I-70 at exit
35):

Solitary Sandpiper--4
Least Sandpiper--2 (county bird for me; thanks to Hans Holbrook for his
report on this venue)

Youghogeny (sp?) Reservoir, Garrett Co., accessed from Old Morgantown
Rd. (via exit 4 off of I-68); the drying reservoir now has extensive
mudflats:

Green Heron--6, hanging around the fringes of the water
Killdeer--133 counted
Lesser Yellowlegs--2
Spotted Sandpiper--3
Solitary Sandpiper--6
Semipalmated Sandpiper--1
Least Sandpiper--4 (county closeout)
STILT SANDPIPER--1 (I had one here six years ago, also)

On the return trip yesterday (Friday, 3 Aug), we stopped again at the
Beaver Creek wetland (in the 95+ degree heat), and only the numbers had
changed:

Solitary Sandpiper--7
Least Sandpiper--1
