Greetings,
The siren call of cooler (yes!) weather could not be ignored, so I hied meself to
the above location where I last visited on 26 June, enjoying a modicum of suc-
cess (35 spp.), including 6 spp. of warbler. I particularly recall one area literally
crawling with Worm-eating W's. Alas, today produced NO warblers (a last mo-
ment fleeting look at a small, greenish-yellow guy had my hopes up but, after
mulling it over, I decided it was a young Goldfinch)! Arriving at a latish 1035,
I birded 3 hrs. 'til 1335. Temp's varied from 73 to 82 deg's F and a humidity
ranging from about 50 up to 60 %. A fresh breeze made the walk a pleasure for
much of the time, but increasing temp's & humidity as the day wore on hastened
my return. Here's the dirty:

C Goose--53, on the mudflats
RT Hawk--brief fly-by
M Dove--1
YB Cuckoo--3, heard only
RT Humm'bird--1; wouldn't sit for its portrait
Downy W'pkr--heard only
Acadian Fly'r--3, heard only
E. Wood Pewee--4, heard only
C C'dee~5,mostly heard
WB Nuthatch--1, heard only
C Wren--5, heard only
RE Vireo--1, heard only
N Cardinal--very secretive, none seen
Goldfinch~15, all but one heard only.

Total spp: 14

Note: latish rains produced no new fungi, & only 2 damselflies (Blue-fronted
Dancer, M, and an Ebony Jewelwing, F) were evident. The cicadas pro-
vided an almost continuous background accompaniment.
