Dear Al

I spent 6.30-8.00am in the Stables, Maitenence Yard area of Rock Creek Park
this morning. It was a lovely morning to be out and there were definitely new
birds afoot.

I just got started seeing a few birds around the stables when someone
decided to start up a very noisy leaf blower (at 6.30am) so I moved down to
the Maintenence Yard earlier than planned. There was some vis mig but the
yard was quiet to start of with, but as the sun hit the trees a good number of
birds built up, especially in the usual spots at the back of the yard. Amongst
the bustle appeared a noisy and otherwise showy single Red-breasted
Nuthatch.

Visible Migration: Cedar Waxwing (40), Cowbird (35), Robins (150), Chimney
Swift (750++), Nighthawk (3), Blue Jay (10), Kingbird (3), Oriole sp (3)

Warblers: Chestnut-sided (2), Yellow (2), Prairie (1), Redstart (4+), Red-eyed
Vireo (10+), Blue-headed Vireo (1), Parula (1).

Others stuff: Pewee(5+), Baltimore Oriole (8+), R T Hummer (8), House Wren
(3), Gnatchatcher (5), Hairy Woodpecker (1), Red-breated Nuthatch (1).

I am off to the UK tomorrow for ten days so I'll be back for more birds at the
end of the first week in Sept. (Those of you from the UK might be interested
to hear that there's been a remarkable fall of Greenish Warblers in Norfolk, at
least 15 in the county with six together at one spot).

Cheers
